Fear of Being Rejected

Many people are afraid of being rejected. In fact, today, in high school, it is all about “fitting in”. Society today makes us think that we have to be thin in order to be perfect, or to smoke, or drink, or do drugs in order to be “cool”. We all know or should know that this is wrong. We should be content with ourselves and love ourselves because we were made in the image of God. But why do we do it anyways? We do it because as humans, we long for approval, and because the majority approves it, and we also want to be accepted, we follow everyone else. We continuously deceive ourselves though into thinking that we will eventually be satisfied, but we never will and we will continuously move away from God. Because of the fact that we were made in the image of God, when we say that we are ugly or dumb or not good enough, it is like saying to God that he is ugly or dumb or not good enough, and we all know that it is definitely not true of God. So do not listen to society but listen to yourself and love yourself for who you are. Now we do not want to go to the extreme of this either, and also do not forget God’s greatest commandments which is to love God and love your neighbor as yourself.

“Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is kept safe” (Proverbs 29:25).
“Have no fear of sudden disaster or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked, for the Lord will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being snared” (Proverbs 3:25).
“Blessed are you when men hate you, when they exclude you and insult you and reject your name as evil, because of the Son of Man. Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, because great is your reward in heaven” (Luke 6:22-23).
